Are Snake and Raiden the same?

No, Snake and Raiden are not the same. Although both characters have appeared in the Metal Gear Solid video game franchise, there are some key differences between the two characters that separate them.

Snake, also known as Big Boss or Solid Snake, is the main protagonist in the franchise and was first introduced in the original Metal Gear Solid game in 1998. Snake is a legendary soldier and member of the special forces unit FOXHOUND trained in infiltration and combat, highly proficient in both physical and mental skills, a brilliant strategist and tactician, master of camouflage and espionage, and a prodigious soldier.

Raiden on the other hand, was introduced in the Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty game and is a cyborg soldier. Though physically human, Raiden has numerous cybernetic implants, making him faster and stronger than an average human being.

His primary weapon is a katana and he also uses robotic bodyguards which respond to his voice commands. Like Snake, Raiden is highly skilled in battle tactics and maneuvers, but does not possess the same level of experience or expertise as Snake.

Why is Raiden referred to as Jack?

Raiden is referred to as Jack because prior to becoming a member of the special forces unit FOXHOUND he was a child soldier from the Vietnamese War known as Jack. His real name is Jack, and he was given the nickname “Raiden” by his superiors.

His original name of Jack was brought back in the Metal Gear Solid series as his codename, and he became recognized as Raiden Jack. In the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots storyline, it is revealed that Raiden was given the name Jack after a heroic action in the Liberian Civil War he performed as a child soldier, in which he demonstrated incredible courage and skill in combat.

As a result, the leader of his unit gave him the nickname “Jack the Ripper”. Throughout the years Raiden has come to embrace the name Jack, and has become a symbol of justice and courage.

Is Snake Raiden’s father?

No, Snake is not Raiden’s father. While in the Metal Gear Solid series of video games it is implied that there is a familial connection between Snake and Raiden, this is never definitively stated or confirmed.

Why was Snake wearing a Raiden mask?

In the game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Snake wears a Raiden mask in order to disguise himself when infiltrating the Big Shell facility. By disguising himself as Raiden, a new recruit, he is able to gain access to restricted areas, find informants, and generally move around more freely without drawing too much attention.

It also serves to make the game more interesting for the player, as the character Snake has to pretend to be someone else. Additionally, it serves to further the story by assisting in the plan to infiltrate the enemy’s headquarters in an attempt to track down Emma Emmerich.

Having Snake disguised as Raiden would also create a situation where the player was in the dark as to who Snake really was. This increased suspense and mystery made the mission more engaging.

How are Raiden and Snake connected?

Raiden and Snake have a complicated relationship. They first encountered each other in the original Metal Gear Solid, wherein Raiden posed as a rookie special forces operative and attempted to get information on a terrorist group from Snake.

Raiden was eventually put into a no-win situation that required Snake to save him, but at the same time, Snake criticized Raiden’s naivete and false sense of courage.

Their relationship changed significantly during the events of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 4. In MGS2, Raiden was a Cyborg Ninja that worked for the anti-terrorist organization The Patriots. Raiden saw Snake as his mentor and personal hero, which led to him looking up to him and following his orders unconditionally.

Although Snake saw great potential in Raiden, he also grew frustrated with Raiden’s willingness to be manipulated by the Patriots.

In Metal Gear Solid 4, Raiden was a cyborg mercenary working for the PMC, Maverick Security. Raiden had become hardened and jaded by his years of experience as a soldier and no longer held the same admiration for Snake that he did in MGS2.

In fact, Raiden briefly fought Snake in an effort to kill Solidus Snake, and was only saved from death when Snake removed his nanomachines and let Raiden fall unconscious.

Additionally, Snake and Raiden have come to blows several times over the course of the series. Despite their differences, however, Snake and Raiden have deeply respected each other’s skills and resolve, and have had a strong bond of comradeship since their first meeting.

How is Raiden related to Solid Snake?

Raiden and Solid Snake are both children of renowned mercenary Big Boss/Naked Snake, making them half-brothers. Raiden, also known as Jack, was born in Liberia during the First Liberian Civil War and was found by Solidus Snake, who was leading The Patriots, a secret organization known for manipulating global events.

Solidus took him in and gave him the name Raiden.

Solid Snake, on the other hand, was Big Boss’s son via another mother, who was the leader of an unknown special forces unit during the early 1970s.

Raiden eventually joined the Patriots, but was later appointed to join the special forces group known as the ‘Foxhound’ by Solidus, who had been posing as the Patriots in secret, and would act as a spy for them.

Raiden and Solid Snake first meet in the Shadow Moses nuclear weapons disposal facility on Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty; there Solid Snake reveals the truth about their relationship and Raiden’s past.

From then on, their relationship grows as Raiden is involved in multiple missions with Solid Snake, including the Tanker incident in Metal Gear Solid 2, and the Insurrection incident in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Their relationship is further explored in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, where they join forces to stop Coldman and his plan to launch an AI-controlled nuclear weapon to start World War III.

Why is Raiden missing his jaw?

Raiden is missing his jaw because of an incident that took place during his time as a child soldier. While on a mission in Liberia, Raiden and the rest of his unit were ambushed by the enemy during which Raiden had his jaw brutally ripped off.

Despite suffering from his injuries, Raiden was able to make it out alive. As a result of the incident, Raiden had to have his jaw replaced by a cyborg jaw to help him survive. This cutting-edge technology saves his life and allows him to function normally, although shows that he is no longer fully human.

The jaw also serves as a reminder of the life he has lived and the choices he has made. This missing jaw has become a prominent feature of Raiden’s appearance and it is something which fans have come to associate with him.

Who are Raiden’s parents Mortal Kombat?

Raiden’s parents are not explicitly stated in the Mortal Kombat franchise, but there are hints about his origin and parentage. According to lore, he is the former thunder god and Earthrealm protector who was once a powerful deity worshiped by the humans of Earthrealm.

Raiden is immortal, and his origin story is that he was sent to Earthrealm by the Elder Gods to ensure the Elder Challenge was completed, a ritual which sees outworlders duking it out in Mortal Kombat.

Outside of this basic deity backstory, the exact parentage of Raiden remain a mystery. It is possible that Raiden is a personal creation of the Elder Gods, or one of the thunder god pantheon recognized in other mythologies.
