Why did the Targaryens marry each other?

The Targaryens were the ruling dynasty of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and maintained their bloodline through centuries of inbreeding. Historically, Targaryens have practiced a policy of intermarriage in order to keep their bloodline pure, as well as to strengthen their political alliances.

This tradition was established by Aegon I, the first Targaryen ruler of Westeros, and was followed throughout their three-hundred-year rule.

The Targaryens were motivated to marry each other for a variety of reasons. On a practical level, marrying within the family allowed them to keep their wealth and power concentrated in the hands of a few.

Marriage also reinforced their ties to the Valyrian Freehold, from which the Targaryens originally descended. Marrying within their own family also gave the Targaryens the assurance that their heirs would be of pure Valyrian blood, thus allowing them to hold onto their special powers such as fire-breathing and predictive dreams.

On an emotional level, Targaryens also believed that by marrying each other they were maintaining a sacred bond between them. They saw their marriages as a way to honor their ancestors, as well as to ensure that their descendants would also honor their heritage.

To them, marriage was a way to preserve the Targaryen dynasty and keep their legacy alive.

Did Rhaenyra Targaryen sleep with her uncle?

No, Rhaenyra Targaryen did not sleep with her uncle. Rhaenyra Targaryen was a claimant to the Iron Throne and a member of House Targaryen, the royal house of Westeros. She was the daughter of King Viserys I and Queen Aemma Arryn.

Her uncle, Jaehaerys I, was her father’s brother and the rightful king of Westeros. While the two were cousins, there is no evidence that they ever shared a romantic relationship. In addition, Rhaenyra was married to various people throughout her life, and her uncle held his own marriage to Naerys Targaryen until his death.

Therefore, it is quite unlikely that the two ever engaged in any physical relationship.

Which Targaryen married his sister?

King Aegon I Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Conqueror, was the first king of the Targaryen dynasty and the founder of the Iron Throne. He is well known for having married his own sister, Visenya Targaryen.

Visenya was his elder sister and the daughter of King Aerion II Targaryen, and they were both Targaryens of Valyrian descent. The pair had three children together—Rhaenys, Visenya, and Aegon. Aegon and Visenya were married for many years and very much in love.

In fact, during their marriage, it was said that Visenya was more like a wife than a sister to him. They had a strong relationship and often consulted with one another for the benefit of the realm. This union was seen as beneficial for House Targaryen in order to increase the final claim to the Iron Throne and solidify their power.

Although it is not clear why Aegon married his own sister, it is speculated that being consciously of their power and lineage, it was seen as beneficial for their dynasty to carry on the blood of the Valyrians through this union.

What sickness does Viserys have?

Viserys does not appear to have any specific sickness or health condition. However, throughout the series, he displays numerous erratic and unhealthy behaviors, such as excessive use of alcohol, engaging in dangerous behavior, lack of self-control, and poor decision-making capabilities.

Many of these behaviors are indicative of mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, or narcissistic personality disorder. Viserys’ erratic and dangerous behavior puts his own life in danger and often negatively impacts those around him.

Who was the first Mad Targaryen?

He had several wives and children who all died before him, leaving him to be succeeded by his younger brother Viserys I Targaryen. Legend says that King Aegon was mentally ill, and he was known to be quite paranoid and distrustful of others, which may have been the cause of his madness.

He is described as having a face like that of a dragon, possibly a trait inherited from his ancestors and which could be the very source of his madness.

How many Targaryens have gone mad?

Throughout the history of House Targaryen there have been many members who have fallen victim to the family’s infamous curse of ‘dracarys’ (or madness). This madness is caused by the combination of heavy inbreeding and the presence of the family’s own Valyrian bloodline in their veins.

Some of the most notable Targaryens to suffer from this madness include Aegon the Unworthy, Maegor the Cruel, and Aerys II Targaryen, who was famously known as The Mad King. While a large number of Targaryens have gone mad, it is difficult to accurately specify a number since there have likely been many cases of individuals who have been victims of this dreadfully powerful family curse that have not been explicitly noted in any records or texts.

However, since there have been so many members of House Targaryen, it is safe to say that the number is quite large.

Who is the most evil Targaryens in history?

The most evil Targaryen in history is undoubtedly Aerys II (or “The Mad King”), who reigned from 272-281 AC until his death at the hands of Robert Baratheon. During his nine-year rule, he became increasingly paranoid and tyrannical, executing the opposition and burning people alive with wildfire.

He was even prepared to destroy the whole of King’s Landing in a massive wildfire explosion to avenge his own death. He also savagely tortured his own servants, including Lord Rickard Stark, Eddard Stark’s father, before having him burned alive.

In addition to his reign of terror, Aerys also allowed the Faith of the Seven to regain its oppressive power, erasing the religious freedoms of his own people and oppressing them in the process. All in all, Aerys II was undoubtedly one of the most evil, despotic Targaryens in history.

Who was the most ruthless in Game of Thrones?

Depending on perspective. However, one character that consistently sticks out as one of the most ruthless is Cersei Lannister.

Cersei did not hesitate to do whatever was necessary in order to ensure the protection of her children and the legacy of House Lannister. She was willing to go to any lengths to maintain her power and had no mercy for any of her opponents.

She was manipulating, cunning, and had no qualms about killing anyone who posed a threat to the Lannisters.

Cersei also showed no remorse over her actions. Her willingness to use human lives as pawns to achieve her goals was both morally corrupt and disturbingly efficient. Whether it was ordering the death of millions of innocent people in King’s Landing or executing Eddard Stark, she was unafraid of the consequences of her decisions and would even take delight in manipulations executions.

Although there are many characters within the Game of Thrones series who could be considered ruthless, Cersei Lannister is single-handedly the most ruthless of them all.

The two half-sisters both had claims to the Iron Throne after the death of their father, engaging in what is known as The Dance of the Dragons in order to determine who would become ruler of Westeros.
