Why didn’t the dire wolf go with Arya?

The dire wolf that belonged to Arya Stark was called Nymeria. As is typical with wolves, Nymeria was fiercely independent and wild. After Arya was attacked by a pack of noblemen, Nymeria defended her and bit one of them, resulting in dire consequences for both of them.

Arya had no choice but to send Nymeria away to avoid the wrath of those men. She didn’t want her precious wolf to be harmed so she told Nymeria to lead the pack back into the wild and live safely. Although Arya wanted her to stay, she knew that was for the best.

In a way, Arya lost a part of herself when she sent Nymeria away but it was a necessary decision at the time. Through this experience, Arya learnt that although she loved her dire wolf, Nymeria had her own destiny and could not stay with her.

With a heavy heart, Arya released her beloved wolf into the wild where it could lead the pack away to safety.

Why Nymeria not go with Arya?

In a sense, Arya was asking Nymeria to give up her freedom and be loyal to a human. Nymeria had become a strong, independent wolf, and she was determined to stay that way.

Arya understood Nymeria’s choice, and heartbroken, she let her go. She gave her the ultimatum that she wouldn’t be able to go back to Winterfell with her but was free to make her own destiny.

Nymeria chose to carve out her own path and remain loyal to her pack and the wild. She wanted to continue being free even if that meant she could never reunite with Arya.

Why did Arya say that’s not you to the direwolf?

Arya said “that’s not you” to the direwolf when her father Ned Stark, the Lord of Winterfell, announced that the direwolf had killed one of the livestock at the farm they had been staying at. The family were visiting with two other Northern families, the Umbers and the Karstarks, and the owner of the farm was a vassal of the Karstarks.

It was the custom of these families to reward those who owned land, and the owner of the farm was expecting an animal from the Stark family to repay him for the killed livestock.

However, Arya objected to her father’s plan and refused to give up any of their own animals. She argued that it was not the direwolf’s fault, and that it was only trying to protect her and her family.

This prompted Arya to proclaim “that’s not you” to the direwolf, refusing to blame it for the accident. This brave defence of her beloved pet made a lasting impression on Ned and he decided that instead of an animal, the family would pay the owner silver for the loss of the livestock.

Why did aryas wolf leave?

But in doing so, she bit Prince Joffrey and caused an uproar, which scared Nymeria away and ultimately made her leave. It is clear that her departure was out of fear as Arya’s experience with the pack suggests they would have stayed if they weren’t afraid:

“Weeks passed before Arya saw Nymeria again. She came to the river one morning when the wolf pups were playing by the shore, and when Nymeria saw her the wolf goddess ran to her and leapt and spun and shoved her muzzle into Arya’s chest.

Arya had never seen Nymeria look so happy. ”.
